About Fiat

You know it stands for something but what? Fabbrica Italiana Automobil Torino that’s what, Or as we might say the Italian Automobile Factory of Turin. The date was 11th July 1899 a principle moment when Fiat was founded by one, Giovanni Agnelli (later to become Managing Director) with the first factory opening in Corso Dante just a year later, today Fiat is the largest vehicle manufacturer in Italy. In 1910 at New York Sates’ Ploughkeepsie. a plant was licensed to produce Fiats three years prior to Fords’ mass assembly line. Jumping ahead to 1934 the Topolino became the smallest utilitarian car in the world right up until 1955. Mass production came to Fiat in 1937 with the opening of their Miraflori Plant, but the war years cut car production as weapons, aircraft, commercial and military vehicles took over. One of the most famous Fiats’, the 127 was the first to have front wheel drive and became Car of the Year in 1971. Later to be replaced by the Uno oh, and who can forget the Panda? The Strada became “Handbuilt by Robots” in a TV. Commercial, which filled an entire News at Ten break with the soundtrack of Figaro accompaniment. Fiat produces cars in Brazil and has factories in Poland and Argentina. A subsidiary, Fiat Industrial owns the brands Iveco and CNH Global with the Fiat Group (inc. Automobiles S,p,A,) owning Maserati, Ferrari along with Lancia and Alfa Romeo. Today Fiat is strong enough to gain a controlling stake in Chrysler.

About the Fiat Chinquecento

The Fiat Cinquecento (Italian pronunciation: [t?i?kwe't??nto], English: /?t???kw?'t??nto?/) was a city car designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Ital Design, launched by Fiat in late 1991 to replace the Fiat 126. It was the first Fiat model to be solely manufactured in the FSM plant in Tychy, Poland, which had been sold to Fiat by the Polish state, and where production of the Polish variant of the Fiat 126, the Polski Fiat 126p, was still running. Production of the Cinquecento ended in 1998, when it was replaced by the Seicento. Despite its name, its lowest displacement was 704 cc. The Cinquecento was available in one body style only, a small, angular 3-door hatchback, with a favorable drag coefficient of only 0. 33 that bore similarities to the Lancia Y10. It featured several advances compared to older Fiat city cars, including independent suspension both in the front and in the rear similar to the FIAT Tipo, front disc brakes, side impact bars along with crumple zones incorporated in the design and galvanized body panels to fend off corrosion. Steering was by rack and pinion, and although power steering was never offered, the car could be ordered with a number of extras, including central locking, power windows, sunroof (or full-length retractable canvas roof in the Soleil version) and even air conditioning.
