The SEAT León Mk1 (or Typ 1M) represents SEAT's first attempt, in the VW era, to introduce a C segment model. The first generation of the SEAT León was launched in 1999 and actually was the hatchback version of the SEAT's Toledo Mk2 sedan, just like the stablemate Volkswagen Golf Mk4 was for the VW Bora, upon which both León and Toledo were made. In fact the León shared the same platform (PQ34 platform) and parts of the chassis, as well as engines, electrical components and almost every single part ( with the exception of textiles and some plastics in the interior ) not only with the Volkswagen Golf Mk4, but also with the Audi A3 Mk1 and the Skoda Octavia Mk1.
